Class Rules
1. Bring all needed materials to class.
2. Be in your seat and ready to begin when class starts.
3. Speak at appropriate times, using appropriate voice and language.
3. Respect other people, their property, and yourself.
4. It is the student's responsibility to request and make up assignments.
Supplies
Students will need a three-ring binder (not spiral binder or composition book) dedicated solely to language arts, with tab dividers labeled listening & speaking; grammar; writing; and literature. Keep it stocked with loose-leaf paper.
In addition, students should have two sharpened pencils every day, an eraser, highlighters, a pen, sticky notes, and a dry-erase marker.
Students should also have a book to read when they complete assignments early or are tasked with a specific assignment. The book may be fiction or nonfiction, but it should not be a graphic novel, textbook, or magazine.
Practice work
Students are expected to complete practice work and homework regardless of whether a grade counts toward the student's absence or not. Final assessments DO COUNT toward a student's average, and it is unlikely that a student will be successful on a test if he or she does not practice.
Retakes
1. Students who score below 85 on a test are eligible to do a retake.
2. Students will have two weeks from the test date to retake a test. After the two week deadline, students will no longer be eligible to retake the test.
3. Students must complete the recovery work BEFORE the teacher will sign the retake ticket. See the teacher as soon as you know that you are interested in retaking the test.
4. Students must submit retake tickets and recovery work to the front office by the retake ticket submission date. The retake date will be posted on the recovery work information sheet issued for specific assignments.
Absences
Absent students should ask the teachcer for printouts of assignments. Students are responsible for completing and submitting all missed work.
Late or Missing Work
Class work and homework are generally designed for students to practice skills before formal assessment (testing.)
Parents, please support your child's efforts to practice and monitor his or her progress by insisting that all work be completed and submitted on time.
Email or Flashdrive Submissions
No student work will be accepted via email or flash drives unless otherwise instructed to do so. Hard copies must be submitted.
